About The Position

The Grad Intern - Bioinformatics Technologies position at Amgen is designed for graduate students with a strong background in computational biology. The intern will join the Bioinformatics Technologies team to leverage advanced computational methods and AI/ML techniques to analyze spatial omics data, contributing to drug discovery and therapeutic optimization. This role emphasizes collaboration with senior scientists and offers hands-on experience in developing innovative solutions to deepen the understanding of tissue architecture and cellular interactions.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program from an accredited college or university, having completed the first year before the internship starts.
  • Strong background in computational biology, with a theoretical understanding of machine learning and graph theory.
  • Excellent understanding of molecular biology, ideally with experience in spatial sequencing technologies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with colleagues from different fields.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree concentration in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Data Science, Biostatistics, Biophysics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a similarly quantitative field.
  • Experience with graph ML and knowledge of spatial omics data generation, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Familiarity with software development practices, including code versioning and documentation.
  • Fluency in scientific programming with R, Python, or equivalents, and experience with DL/ML frameworks such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement AI/ML models to analyze spatial omics data, focusing on tissue-specific patterns and biological insights.
  • Review relevant literature to stay updated on AI/ML techniques applied to spatial omics and tissue research.
  • Contribute to experiments to inspire new computational strategies and refine data collection methods.
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional team to interpret model outputs and improve spatial data analysis.
