About The Position

As a Grab‑and‑Go/Prep Cook in a hospital setting, you’ll prepare fresh, convenient food items that support patient care teams, visitors, and staff throughout the day. You’ll play a key role in daily food service operations by producing high‑quality grab‑and‑go meals and completing essential prep work that keeps the kitchen running efficiently. Working in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment, you’ll follow recipes, dietary guidelines, and strict food safety standards while contributing to a clean, organized, and dependable food service operation.

Requirements

  • ServSafe® Certification and State Food Handlers Card
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen
  • High School Diploma/GED

Responsibilities

  • Review daily menus and production plans, and gather ingredients needed for prep and grab‑and‑go production.
  • Prepare fresh grab‑and‑go items such as salads, sandwiches, bowls, snacks, and packaged meals, ensuring consistency, quality, and freshness.
  • Follow standardized recipes, portion guidelines, and production sheets to meet hospital food service and nutrition standards.
  • Complete daily prep and pull schedules to support cafeteria service, grab‑and‑go programs, and special requests.
  • Utilize proper food prep techniques to ensure quality, safety, and appealing presentation.
  • Apply appropriate garnishing and packaging standards to ensure grab‑and‑go items are attractive, clearly labeled, and ready for service.
  • Restock grab‑and‑go displays as needed to meet demand throughout the day.
  • Maintain food safety standards at all times—keeping cold items properly chilled and following approved holding procedures.
  • Weigh, measure, and prepare ingredients for upcoming production, using correct storage and thawing methods.
  • Ensure all food is properly stored, labeled, dated, and rotated to maintain freshness and compliance with hospital regulations.
  • Follow kitchen opening and closing procedures, including proper setup, breakdown, and cleaning.
  • Clean and sanitize prep equipment, workstations, coolers, and storage areas according to hospital and health department guidelines.
  • Assist with training new food service team members as needed.
  • Report equipment issues or maintenance needs to the Supervisor.
  • Support inventory organization and document product usage or removal from storage areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
