About The Position

This position will serve as a Traffic Engineering Intern for the Technical Services Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Intern will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support. The objective of the position is to provide a valuable learning experience for the intern, as well as to assist the agency in completing their assignments and responsibilities.

Requirements

• Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
• Relevant work experience preferred
• Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT
• Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
• Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process
• Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports
• Analytical skills
• Ability to handle multiple projects
• Ability to operate computer tools
• Good research and writing skills
• Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts
• Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances

Responsibilities

• Learning and using ArcGIS to update and enhance various databases (official actions, no passing zones, lighting, etc)
• Creating work order diagrams to provide safety enhancements across the District
• Updating school zones across the District to meet all MUTCD criteria
• Establishing No Passing Zones in urban areas
• Conduct investigations by collecting and analyzing data to determine possible improvements
• Other duties as assigned
