Cybersecurity Department The Cybersecurity Engineer Intern supports the global Cybersecurity team in designing, implementing, and maintaining security controls that protect Vantage Data Centers’ enterprise IT environments, cloud platforms, and corporate systems. This role provides hands‑on exposure to cybersecurity engineering, security operations, and risk management in a large‑scale, mission‑critical environment. The intern will assist with security monitoring, tool deployment, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen security posture while enabling business operations. Position Overview This role will be based in Denver, CO, Ashburn, VA or Phoenix, AZ. The Cybersecurity Engineer Intern supports Vantage Data Centers’ global Cybersecurity team in designing, implementing, and maintaining security controls that protect enterprise IT systems, cloud environments, and corporate platforms. This internship provides hands‑on experience in cybersecurity engineering, security operations, and risk management within a large-scale, mission-critical data-center environment. In this role, the intern will assist with security alert triage, vulnerability management, tool deployment, and documentation of cybersecurity standards and procedures. The position also offers the opportunity to collaborate with cross‑functional teams—such as IT, Cloud, Identity, Infrastructure, and Application teams—to help integrate and strengthen security controls across the organization. Additionally, the intern will support post‑incident review activities and research emerging cybersecurity threats to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in, or recent graduate of, a degree program in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
  • Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity engineering, security operations, or IT infrastructure security
  • Fundamental understanding of cybersecurity concepts and networking principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document technical concepts clearly
  • Travel required is expected to be up to 5% but may increase overtime as business evolves.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to security tools or concepts related to SIEM, endpoint protection, identity and access management (IAM), or cloud security
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF, NIST SP 800‑53, NIST SP 800‑82, or ISO 27001
  • Experience creating SOPs, job aids, or technical documentation

Responsibilities

  • Support analysis and initial triage of security alerts and incidents to help determine impact, severity, and potential root cause
  • Assist with the deployment, configuration, and support of cybersecurity tools and technologies (e.g., endpoint protection, logging, vulnerability management, access controls)
  • Support vulnerability management activities, including scanning coordination, documentation, and remediation tracking
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of cybersecurity engineering documentation, including standards, procedures, diagrams, and job aids
  • Assist with monitoring compliance to cybersecurity policies, standards, and frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO)
  • Participate in post‑incident reviews and lessons‑learned activities to support continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with IT, Cloud, Identity, Infrastructure, and Application teams to integrate security controls into enterprise systems
  • Research emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies and document findings
  • Handle additional duties as assigned by management.
