About The Position

Responsible for helping to implement the company's federal government relations strategy supporting the Kroger Health business. Expand Kroger's license to operate by influencing key stakeholders in government and trade associations to support and shape the outcome of legislative and regulatory decisions affecting our retail and specialty pharmacies and The Little Clinics. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree political science, communications, journalism, public health, economics or related field
  • Any previous experience in Washington, D.C., preferably having served as a primary point of contact to legislative offices for a company, organization, or issue
  • 5+ years of advocacy, legislative, public affairs or government relations experience
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Extensive network of reliable contacts within the Administration, Congress, Trade Associations and Political Organizations
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Any previous work with elected officials or political campaigns
  • Any experience with Capitol Hill in a legislative role as a Member, Committee or supporting office
  • Any previous work as a public affairs leader in retail or corporate environment, or within or managing public relations agencies
  • Any experience in the food and agriculture value chain and/or retail

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and leverage relationships with members of the Congress, key staff, the Administration, industry peers and trade associations in order to impact key public policy objectives
  • Research and analyze issues, policies and pending legislation and regulations/guidance to determine impact to organization
  • Stay proficient on issues related to Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, direct and indirect remuneration (DIR) fees, scope of practice regulations and other pharmacy and retail health clinic laws and regulations
  • Coordinate with local corporate affairs team's efforts on state legislation affecting both the retail and specialty pharmacies and retail health clinics
  • Translate impact of bills/laws/regulations to leaders in the organization and make recommendations on how to proceed
  • Serve in leadership roles on trade association and coalition government relations committees/public policy committees
  • Attend legislative committee meetings and hearings and report summaries
  • Work with aligned third party public affairs groups, think tanks, and non-governmental organizations to elevate Kroger's profile as a thought leader on public policy
  • Support growth of the Political Action Committee (PAC), grassroots advocacy efforts, get-out-the-vote-campaigns, elected official visits at Kroger Health sites, and other engagement strategies for employees
  • Serve as primary point of contact with key legislative service organizations and Congressional member organizations working on issues facing Kroger Health business
  • Provide actionable foresight and insight to Kroger and Corporate Affairs leadership team
  • Develop and execute government affairs strategies leveraging company's internal business expertise, political, grassroots, executive and trade association assets to ensure successful outcomes on issues
  • Support company's PAC and Kroger Health solicitation/disbursement strategy
  • Travel independently up to 25% to off-site locations for meetings and to attend hearings
