Job Summary The Government Guarantee Lending Special Assets role is responsible for the management, monitoring, and resolution of delinquent, non performing, and otherwise adversely classified SBA and USDA guaranteed loans. This role focuses on identifying, analyzing, and executing the most cost-effective strategies to mitigate risk, maximize recovery, and preserve government guarantee eligibility. The position works closely with internal partners, external vendors, legal counsel, and government agencies to ensure regulatory compliance, accurate reporting, and timely loan resolution. Performs other projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates sound judgment and strong decision‑making skills when evaluating loan performance, identifying risks, and recommending appropriate actions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including interaction with regulators, attorneys, and senior management.
  • Works well in a team-oriented environment, fostering positive working relationships while also demonstrating the ability to work independently.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail, enabling efficient multitasking and accurate prioritization of workloads in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Maintains intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, with the ability to leverage technology to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy.
  • Ability to manage a high‑volume portfolio of complex credits with competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in PCFS Loan Manager, nCino, USDA Lender Interactive Network Connection (LINC), and E‑Tran.
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct experience in SBA/USDA Special Assets experience.
  • Prior experience working with outside counsel and managing SBA litigation processes and USDA litigation processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of delinquent, non‑performing, and adversely classified SBA and USDA loans.
  • Develop and execute action plans to resolve distressed credits, including loan modifications, forbearance, liquidation, and recovery strategies.
  • Coordinate with Portfolio Managers on early‑stage credits to establish long‑term resolution strategies prior to Special Assets transfer.
  • Analyze borrower financial statements, cash flow, and collateral to assess risk, impairment, and recovery potential.
  • Perform all required SBA and USDA‑related due diligence activities to ensure compliance with program requirements and preserve the bank's ability to obtain the full guarantee at the appropriate time.
  • Maintain current knowledge of laws and regulations governing credit, collections, and bankruptcy.
  • Prepare and maintain weekly, monthly, and quarterly internal reports related to delinquency, workout status, resolutions, and recoveries.
  • Serve as a mentor and subject‑matter resource for junior team members, assisting with complex loan issues, SBA compliance interpretation, and professional development.
  • Conducts portfolio‑wide audits and internal reviews to identify emerging credit risks, operational gaps, and process improvement opportunities.
