The Government Analyst II position within the Department of Financial Services involves responsibilities related to accounting and auditing procedures adopted by the Department, Division, and Bureau. This role is crucial for ensuring that internal control structures are adhered to, providing reasonable assurance that objectives are met. The analyst will assist the Financial Administrator in coordinating and conducting activities for the preparation of the Florida Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This includes collecting, analyzing, and compiling financial information from state agencies, developing databases, and providing guidance and training to employees regarding financial reporting procedures. Additionally, the analyst will assist in implementing Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements and developing accounting policies applicable to all agencies.

  • Assist the Financial Administrator in preparing the Florida Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Collect, analyze, and compile financial information from state agencies.
  • Develop and maintain databases for financial reporting.
  • Provide guidance and training to Departmental employees and other state agencies.
  • Implement Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements.
  • Develop accounting policies for all agencies.
  • Prepare training materials and technical communications.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Four (4) years of accounting or auditing experience, or a postsecondary degree in those fields may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of accounting or auditing experience.
  • Experience utilizing, maintaining, and analyzing databases.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Ability to utilize application software and web applications.
  • Ability to research and interpret accounting literature, rules, and pronouncements.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Experience creating, modifying, and troubleshooting Microsoft Access database queries and tables.
  • Intermediate level database and SQL experience.
  • Experience in preparing or reviewing Financial Statements.
  • Experience participating as a team member in the completion of a major project.
