Summary The Government Affairs Specialist, working in collaboration with and supporting the firm’s strategic initiatives, assists on federal legislative and regulatory projects and conducts research for assigned Government Affairs attorneys in a given office. Location This position is located in our Washington D.C. office and offers a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements

  • Self-starter and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Government Affairs, or related discipline.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
  • 1 year of working in a legislative environment.
  • Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties.
  • Produce deliverables, answer phone calls, and reply to correspondence in an efficient and responsive manner.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and quality work product.
  • Successfully meet deadlines, expectations, and perform work duties as required.
  • Foster positive work relationships.
  • Comply with all firm policies and practices.
  • Engage in both physical and sedentary activity, such as (a) working at a computer for extended periods of time, including on-screen reading and typing; (b) participating in digital/virtual conference calls; (c) participating in meetings as needed.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform all other duties, tasks or projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts substantive legislative, regulatory, and legal research on a variety of complex issues at the federal, state, and international levels.
  • Attend hearings, congressional briefings and meetings and reports on these both verbally and in written communications.
  • Research, drafts and edits written materials for partners and clients, including updates on legislative action, analysis of policy, etc including tracking, researching, reviewing and analyzing congressional and Executive action, including bills, regulations, speeches, etc.
  • Assists attorneys in cultivating relationships with clients, political fundraisers, and Congressional Staffers.
  • Monitors upcoming congressional hearings and mark-ups.
  • Organizes large caseloads to ensure timely execution of tasks by attorneys.
  • Assists with preparation of lobbying materials.
  • Arrange and coordinates meetings with congressional staff for attorneys and clients.
  • Prepares materials (letters, documents) as requested by attorneys.
  • Other duties as assigned.
