The Maryland Daily Record/BridgeTower Media is seeking an experienced, digitally savvy Government Affairs Reporter who can work with a strong team to create quality journalism.
Understanding of the legislative process and ability to create connection with key leaders, advocates and business professionals to report essential Government Affairs news and information to Maryland's business and legal professionals.
Provide robust coverage of the 90-day legislative session from January to mid-April and expanded coverage throughout the year.
Serve as an emcee / moderator of legislative panels, live interviews and Daily Record events as needed.
Develop strong sources and connections in the legislative and business community to strengthen content and reach.
Develop ideas for strong news stories, written in unique and engaging ways to increase readership and paid subscribers.
Manage your workflow and timeline to ensure the content is delivered on time, complete and accurate.
Research stories and prepare interview questions as required.
2+ years of niche journalism experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Previous government news experience is a plus.
Ability to create connections who are reliable sources and industry experts.
Public speaking and interview skills.
Proficiency with blogging software, such as WordPress, and with basic computer programs - Word, Excel, etc.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Reliable home internet connection with minimum 50mbps up/10mbps down
