About The Position

Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) is looking for a highly motivated and qualified summer intern to assist the Government Affairs team on key projects necessary to advance the company’s state-level policy objectives. The individual will become familiar with the role that state lobbyists play in legislative and policy work nationwide. The person selected for this position will have the opportunity to interact with legislative and regulatory officials in certain states in addition to affiliated trade associations and business groups.

Requirements

  • Pursing a Bachelor’s in political science, public administration or have a concentration in related curricula associated with legislative policy work with a GPA of 2.7 or higher.
  • The desire to learn about the U.S. Federal government and a genuine passion for public policy and politics.
  • Strong writing skills, interpersonal abilities, a cooperative attitude, adaptability and cultural sensitivity.
  • Proficient with MS Office – particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Currently enrolled in a full-time, accredited Bachelor’s MBA or Master’s degree program.
  • Available to work full-time during the Summer 2024 term.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Lawful unlimited authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Producing a Zero Emission Vehicle Report and other internal documents circulated to Toyota affiliates across the U.S.
  • Monitoring and reporting on state activity that includes identifying and monitoring the progress of certain legislative hearings and regulatory rule making in certain states (issues include autonomous vehicle policy, transportation funding, safety proposals, and others).
  • Creating background materials, position statements and legislative testimony related to the team’s policy pursuits across the country.
  • Conduct research for the purpose of circulating Advance Briefings on a number of Toyota’s policy concentrations.
  • Support team efforts to create certain events across the country, including 'lobby days' in state capitols and related efforts.
  • Other projects and tasks, as needed, including editing a monthly update publication; ensuring that team reports are accurate and circulated in the U.S. and Japan; participate in team calls and meetings; meet and learn about how the company employs external advisors in state capitols.
