About The Position

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone. As a member of the State and Local GAPP team, you will manage our various public policy and product-related agendas with policy makers inside and outside government with a focus on Florida. You will be responsible for developing and executing sophisticated legislative and regulatory strategies on a wide range of issues impacting Google, including artificial intelligence, data privacy, content moderation, energy, competition, privacy, and the future of work. You will provide policy/legislation analysis, own and manage relationships and interactions with Governors offices and state legislatures, monitor and actively engage with regulatory agencies, manage our political giving portfolio and work closely with other colleagues on the team to develop third-party partnerships to advocate for a positive business environment. You will oversee our relationships at the municipal level, especially in the localities where the company has a presence. Google Client Services, an entity within the Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team, manages the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy in the United States. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspectives with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the Internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 7 years of experience in policy analysis and campaigns, working on technology issues or the policy environments that surround them.
• 7 years of experience working within government, think tanks, public interest groups, technology industry groups, or corporate public policy organizations.
• Experience working on technology policy issues at state and local levels in Florida.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in state government, or leading policy or public affairs work for corporations or third-party organizations, (e.g., being a lobbyist or running campaigns).
• Experience with staffing and managing executives, with excellent leadership, communication and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with Internet/technology policy with passion in keeping the Internet open and free.
• Ability to integrate public policy with business strategy and corporate development.

Responsibilities

• Create a regulatory environment to allow growth, protect products and promote a free and open internet. Craft, monitor, analyze and influence state and local policy positions on current and future policy issues of importance to Google.
• Educate stakeholders on Google's key policy positions and contributions and impact of products and services. Build relationships with governors offices, state legislators, third-parties etc. Establish strategies to communicate policy positions to constituencies. Advocate before elected officials and public entities.
• Work with trade associations, industry partners, non-profits and other organizations to build support for Google's policy positions.
• Develop community engagement strategies within the region to ensure Google continues to be an active and responsive corporate citizen.
• Identify policy issues that affect Google, and understand the impact on Google business and users, participate in policy campaigns with goals to set policies.

Benefits

• The US base salary range for this full-time position is $138,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
• Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
• Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
