About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) Summer 2026 Intern at UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement, based in our Evanston, Illinois, office. This 3-month internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a non-profit research environment, contribute to meaningful projects, and develop valuable skills in research and analysis. The GRC Intern plays a supporting role in ensuring that an organization adheres to applicable regulations, standards, and internal policies related to governance, risk management, and compliance. The GRC intern is responsible for assisting with monitoring and evaluating compliance with industry standards, such as NIST.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • An eagerness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges.

  • Strong interest in the non-profit sector and research related to safety, social or environmental issues.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and updating governance, risk, and compliance strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in conducting risk assessments and gap analyses to identify potential vulnerabilities and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of documentation related to compliance controls and procedures.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of risk management programs, including risk identification and assessment activities.
  • Assist in preparing for internal audits and compliance reviews to assess the effectiveness of existing controls.
  • Assist in the monthly phishing campaigns and metric reporting.
  • Support the team in responding to external audits and regulatory inquiries by gathering evidence and compiling documentation.
  • Collaborate with IT and other teams to help ensure security controls and compliance measures are in place.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide input on ongoing projects and initiatives.
  • Perform administrative duties as needed, including data entry, scheduling, and coordination of meetings.
