Our strategic priorities include: adding new strategic relationships, building and deepening existing relationships, and increasing referral activity across all lines of business. The Governance and Controls Advisor will contribute to US Commercial Banking goals and assist with the design and execution of line of business risk and compliance programs affecting US Commercial Banking including Business Banking (BB) and Small Business Administration (SBA) lending teams. The role is an individual contributor role within the first line of defense. The role will serve as a dedicated single point-of-contact to support the second line of defense in advising business unit employees on risk and compliance matters relevant to the line of business. Requirements

  • You can have a minimum of 7 years of experience as a bank external/internal auditor, federal examiner, or compliance related role at a financial institution.
  • You graduated with a degree in Accounting, Finance or other business-related discipline.
  • You have experience in conduction operational and compliance risk and control assessments for Business Banking and Small Business Administration products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strong cross-department relationships – Coordinate with Business Line Risk Management on the assessment of all risk types.
  • Work with the first line centralized controls testing team and support the second line on advice to front-line staff on compliance with CIBC (both Enterprise and US) policies.
  • Act as a liaison between the policy owner and the business to obtain further guidance on policies and guidance documents when needed.
  • Assist Regulatory Affairs and the line of business with the coordination of audit and exam materials.
  • Identify Emerging Risks – Identify and collaborate with second line risk to proactively develop solutions to address such risks with the business.
  • Understand any regulatory changes, including those interpreted by US Oversight Functions, including but limited to Compliance, AML, Operations, and Legal.
  • Manage Procedures and Trainings – Develop, implement and manage business specific procedures, processes, controls and business procedural training impacted by changes for the lines of business.
  • Providing advice and procedural training on matters on a day-to-day basis.
  • Promote and demonstrate a strong CIBC risk culture – Our CIBC risk culture is based on employees striving to exceed the expectations of ourselves and our leadership’s identification and mitigation of risks in their daily responsibilities, not just in quarterly or annual monitoring/assessments.   • This role has an expected salary range of $112,500 - $140,000 for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position.
  • The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
