About the position

The Banquet Server at Gorrono Ranch is responsible for serving meals to patrons in a banquet or catered event environment. This role involves setting up the event venue, assisting guests, presenting menus, serving beverages, ensuring proper dish presentation, and maintaining cleanliness throughout the event. The server will also clear tables, reset for the next course, and adhere to health and sanitation codes. At the conclusion of the event, the server will ensure all items are cleaned and stored properly.

Responsibilities

  • Overall set up of event as directed by Site Manager.
  • Assists in setting up and preparing venue for event, including cleaning, furniture moving, restroom preparation, china, glass and flatware polishing, folding/setting linens, table setting, serving station setup; buffet/station set up.
  • Assists guests to their seating.
  • Presents menu, answers questions regarding ingredients and allergy concerns.
  • Wine and water service at table; beverage service.
  • Inspects, garnishes and decorates dishes preparatory to serving to assure proper presentation.
  • Ensures correct plate is served to each guest.
  • Observes diners to clear course plates and prepare table for next course service.
  • Responds to any additional requests and to determine when meal has been completed.
  • May ladle soup, toss salads, portion cake, pies and desserts, brew coffee, and perform other services as determined by establishment's size and practices.
  • Clears and resets tables/buffet line at conclusion of each course.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures designated by Culinary Services management team.
  • Maintain all health codes and sanitation requirements.
  • At conclusion of event, ensures all plates, dishes, glassware, flatware have been removed to dishwashing area, and all condiments to proper storage.
  • Remove all linens from dining area, and placed in proper linen bags.
  • Removes and sets aside all table décor and favors.
  • Breaks down service stations.
  • Wipes and sanitizes tables and chairs.
  • Sweeps/vacuums all front of house areas.
  • Assist in cleaning restrooms and all public areas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 6 to 12 months related experience and/or training.
  • Fine dining serving experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in communicating clearly in English.
  • Ability to read and understand two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Some knowledge of Spanish and other languages helpful, but not necessary.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of POS software may be required in some venues.

Benefits

  • Pay rate of $15/hr with a premium of $25/hr while guests are onsite during the event.
