Who We Are Denver Parks & Recreation (DPR) provides progressive, community-based Adaptive Recreation programming for individuals with disabilities of all ages. Through this full-time role, we are expanding therapeutic and inclusive golf programming across Denver’s municipal golf system — ensuring golf is accessible, welcoming, and enriching for individuals of all abilities. Location This position works on-site at Denver golf courses, recreation centers, and other locations throughout the City and County of Denver. Evening and weekend hours are required based on programming needs. What You’ll Do The Recreational Therapist plans, coordinates, and leads adaptive and therapeutic golf programming for individuals with disabilities, using recreation and golf as primary modalities to enhance participants’ physical, cognitive, emotional, social, behavioral, and leisure functioning. This role also supports program administration, including budgeting assistance, equipment purchasing and maintenance, participant registration management, and ongoing evaluation to ensure program quality and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field.
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification required.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience planning and implementing adaptive recreation programs.
  • Knowledge of adaptive equipment and inclusive recreation practices.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, ages, and ability levels.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License and ability to obtain City Van Driver certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching or coaching golf (adaptive golf experience strongly preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate adaptive golf programs, clinics, leagues, and Special Olympics training.
  • Design individualized and group therapeutic recreation plans using golf as a primary modality.
  • Adapt instruction, equipment, and course environments to ensure accessibility and ADA compliance.
  • Provide on-course coaching and therapeutic support to promote skill development and independence.
  • Adjust and train participants on adaptive golf carts and equipment for safe, effective use.
  • Coordinate with Denver Golf staff and pro shops to streamline inclusive participant experiences.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate instructors, interns, and volunteers.
  • Maintain program documentation, waivers, evaluations, and outcome data.
  • Assist with budget tracking, equipment purchasing, and inventory management.
  • Conduct outreach and build partnerships with adaptive organizations and community groups.
  • Organize adaptive recreation and social events to increase engagement and visibility.
  • Transport participants to programs and events using City vehicles as needed.
