About The Position

The Des Plaines Park District, established in 1919, features more than 50 parks and facilities. As an Illinois Distinguished Accredited Agency, we service a culturally diverse and growing community with hundreds of affordable recreational and educational programs, classes, and events for kids, teens, adults, and families each season. "Enriching Lives Everyday" is our vision and our constant goal. The Golf Instructor is responsible for lesson and camp development and implementation for park district golf programs. Including youth golf camps ages 8-13 at the Golf Center, as well as youth and adult beginner lessons at Lake Park Golf Course for ages 5 and up. Youth and adult lessons as well as youth summer camps schedule is based off the program guide provided by the Golf and Facilities Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 2+ years of golf teaching experience required
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required

Nice To Haves

  • PGA Professional Certification preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Attend all preseason training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Adhere to Des Plaines Park District policies, procedures and safety standards.
  • Responsible for safety and education during programming for the participants.
  • Organize and lead youth golf camp instruction and beginner golf lesson instruction for ages 5 and up.
  • Work with the Golf and Facilities Supervisor to create and implement lesson plans.
  • Understanding golf techniques and terminology.
  • Teach proper golf etiquette, the rules of golf, cover the basics of grip, putting, and full swing.
  • Ability to cover all club types including putters, wedges, irons, and woods.
  • Set up and take down lesson equipment, keeping inventory clean and organized.
  • Communicate with the Golf and Facilities Supervisor regarding lesson plan changes due to inclement weather.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member with all other staff members.
  • Submit routine paperwork such as Accident/Incident Reports, Time-Off Request Forms.
  • Report any issues, problems or concerns to supervisor/management.
  • Provide golf instruction through driving range, short game, practice green, and on-course lessons.
  • Available for weekday and weekend instruction during spring, summer, and fall seasons.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Administer First Aid, when required
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual and Crisis Manual.
  • Direct participants in the event of an emergency, such as fire and severe weather.
  • Communicate with Golf & Facilities Supervisor regarding any equipment needing repair or replacement.
