About The Position

The City of Birmingham (EOE) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Golf Course/Ice Arena Operator. This is a dual operator position, rotating seasonally between the Golf Course and Ice Arena. Under the supervision of the Ice Arena Superintendent and/or Golf Grounds Superintendent, performs ice arena maintenance, golf course maintenance and custodial operations. This position requires specialized knowledge of ice arena operations and the ability to exercise some independent judgement.

At least 1-3 years of ice arena background preferred
Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
A combination of relevant work and education experience will be considered
Must be able to lift over 60lbs
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
Must be able to work in hot, cold, and adverse weather conditions.
Must be able to operate heavy and small machinery
Must be able to work a varying schedule which includes weekends and nights

Responsibilities

Operates Zamboni and Zamboni edger.
Ensures skates are in excellent condition for rental by frequently sharpening the skates with the skate sharpening machine.
Handles point-of-sale register operations and cash handling, including periodic collection of contract payments.
Prepares and sells concessions, skate rentals, and admission tickets and assigns locker rooms to visitors of the ice arena.
Keeps ice arena activities moving promptly and starting on time by following and enforcing the schedule.
Conducts daily maintenance and cleaning of the ice arena, including locker rooms, restrooms, bleachers, and arena glass.
Provides customer service to all arena guests and manages crowd control.
Acts as the main point of contact for all activities at the ice arena in the absence of the Ice Arena Superintendent.
Mowing of greens, fairways, tee boxes and rough as well as greens rolling
Raking, edging and weeding of bunkers
Use of hand held tools including string trimmers, push mowers and backpack blowers
Course set up including changing hole locations and moving tee markers
Filling divots, seeding and laying sod
Trimming of trees/ shrubs and mulching
Performs routine upkeep and equipment maintenance.
Performs mowing, pruning and other landscaping duties.
Basic irrigation knowledge.
Operates a variety of grounds equipment including mowers, trimming equipment, sprayers.
Guarantee the facilities are clean by conducting frequent custodial work utilizing the various cleaning equipment.
Light mechanical and building duties.
