About The Position

The Golf Course 2nd Assistant Superintendent at Duke University is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing activities related to the management of golf course grounds. This role supports the Administrative Head Superintendent in ensuring the effective maintenance and operation of the golf course, including crew assignments, turf management, and communication with various stakeholders.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; a 2-year degree in turf management preferred.
• Two years of experience in golf course maintenance in an administrative or supervisory role.
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
• Above average computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience with computerized irrigation software and systems.
• Ability to obtain a North Carolina pesticide license within six months of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree in a non-turf related field with management experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate daily and monthly maintenance crew assignments for designated grounds.
• Assist in planning and implementing monthly and 90-day schedules related to turf programs.
• Maintain accurate fertilizer and pesticide records and prepare reports on grounds activities.
• Provide information and consultation to the AHS and 1st Assistant Superintendent regarding golf course policies.
• Conduct training sessions for maintenance crew staff as needed.
• Recommend and implement golf course grounds policies and procedures.
• Prepare statistical reports and analyses on maintenance progress and trends.
• Develop and edit golf course maintenance bulletins and materials for crew assignments.
• Organize and lead maintenance crew members in safety and procedures.
• Maintain liaison with golf course administrators and professionals to coordinate maintenance schedules.
