About The Position

The Group Fitness Instructor will lead members, in a group environment, through a pre-arranged format of exercises designed to enhance overall fitness, strength and endurance, while ensuring that the safety of the members is not compromised. The Group Fitness Instructor will also serve as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness.

Requirements

  • Group fitness certification(s) by Les Mils.
  • At least six months teaching in a group exercise format.
  • Knowledge of safe exercise technique and group exercise principles.
  • Knowledge of basic physiology and body mechanics.
  • Ability to perform a variety of exercise routines.
  • Positive and effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment.
  • Current CPR certification and basic first aid training.
  • Physical demands include the ability to lift light weights, bending, squatting, jumping, running, reaching, walking, hopping, spinning and kicking.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialized skill such as Yoga, Pilates, Body Pump, Body Attack, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive at class location 10 to 15 minutes ahead of scheduled start time to interact with members and answer questions.
  • Wear appropriate fitness attire and ensure proper footwear.
  • Prepare appropriate music for class and ensure all equipment is functioning correctly.
  • Introduce yourself and the format of the class.
  • Assess fitness levels of first-time participants privately.
  • Ensure all verbal instructions are clear and conducive to learning.
  • Monitor participants to ensure correct form and offer variations for different fitness levels.
  • Create a motivational and fun environment for all participants.
  • Remove all music and return microphone after class.
  • Ensure room is in order for the next class.
  • Answer questions and solicit feedback from participants.
  • Ensure class begins and ends promptly.
  • Find a qualified substitute if unable to fulfill a scheduled class.
  • Attend all required staff meetings.
  • Follow proper time recording procedures.
  • Prepare incident and/or witness reports as necessary.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  • Promote Gold's Gym and GGX.
