The Microbiology Lab Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the microbiology laboratory, ensuring efficient workflow, regulatory compliance, and high-quality data output. This role supports a team of microbiologists and lab technicians by managing resources, coordinating schedules, and driving continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

  • Supervise microbiology lab staff, including scheduling, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and scientific integrity.
  • Act as a point of contact for operational issues and escalate as needed.
  • Oversee sample receipt, processing, and testing workflows (e.g., bioburden, endotoxin, sterility, environmental monitoring).
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of testing in accordance with SOPs and client requirements.
  • Manage inventory of media, reagents, and consumables; coordinate with procurement and vendors.
  • Ensure adherence to cGMP, GLP, ISO, and other regulatory standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe lab environment; conduct regular safety audits and inspections.
  • Support internal and external audits, including CAPA implementation and documentation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance lab efficiency and reduce turnaround time.
  • Collaborate with QA and other departments to streamline workflows and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Review and approve lab documentation, including test records, logbooks, and deviation reports.
  • Generate operational metrics and performance reports for management.
  • Ensure data integrity and compliance with data governance policies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related scientific field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in a microbiology lab, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of microbiological techniques and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working in a GMP setting.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in LIMS, Microsoft Office, and lab instrumentation.
