Duties and Responsibilities Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a focus on fast, friendly Customer Service. Assists customers by making product suggestions. Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in‑store intercom announcements, and one‑on‑one customer interaction. Answers incoming calls appropriately; resolves customer complaints and reports issues to the Store Director when needed. Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director (see Store Director job description). Plans GM daily operations and monitors production processes according to company procedures and profitability goals. Builds GM/HBC displays, rotates stock, and removes outdated or spoiled product. Ensures overall cleanliness of the work area and department. Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays. Follows and maintains all department standards and requirements. Monitors employee productivity and evaluates overall performance. Schedules employees to maintain adequate coverage and service levels. Possesses specific knowledge of duties performed by all department employees, including opening and closing procedures. Schedules, supervises, trains, and assigns duties to department employees. Trains employees on store policies, sales procedures, and record‑keeping requirements. Identifies and trains employees who show strong potential for advancement. Maintains working knowledge of company policies as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook. Ensures proper code dating for all products in the department. Initiates personnel actions such as interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary steps. Prepares sales and inventory reports; conducts physical inventory every 6 months. Controls inventory to ensure proper product quantity, quality, and freshness; maintains inventory levels per division directives. Stocks and rotates product. Orders general merchandise items and maintains inventory levels in line with Division guidelines. Supervises reclamation processing and maintains organized, in‑stock conditions in the backroom and all Drug Department areas. Controls shrink and expenses. Uses a variety of equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, and safety cutters. Performs receiving duties such as breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product. Follows temperature, storage, and packaging requirements. Processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate departmental records. Accurately completes and monitors daily log sheets, sales and labor reports, and other required documentation. Ensures correct temperature levels for all products. Follows retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, company policies, and code‑date standards. Follows all workplace safety rules and regulations. Maintains safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards for the work area, cooler, equipment, and display areas. Implements emergency procedures in the event of equipment or computer software malfunctions. Uses computer software and electronic ordering devices to order product. Participates in sales meetings; communicates department performance, sales goals, and opportunities to employees. Ensures compliance with company grooming standards and dress code. Performs all duties safely, accurately, honestly, and with integrity. Performs additional duties as needed. Skills and Physical Requirements Strong communication and interpersonal skills; maintains a professional demeanor with customers and coworkers. Solid understanding of company practices and GM/HBC department policies and procedures. Frequently lifts and maneuvers objects weighing up to approximately 50 lbs; bends, stoops, reaches, and performs repetitive arm movements. Pushes and pulls fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks. Requires manual dexterity and good eye‑hand coordination. Requires mental alertness to ensure accurate and safe task completion. Requires basic math skills and knowledge of weights and measures. Must have knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, handling requirements, sanitation, and labeling. Operates telephones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, and safety cutters. Uses cleaning supplies, equipment, and computer software for ordering. May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays; consistent attendance is essential. Exposure to potential hazards associated with equipment and work aids. Work Environment Works primarily in a temperature‑controlled environment with frequent exposure to refrigerated conditions around 35°F. Occasional travel, including overnight travel, may be required.
