About The Position

The Global Exchange Academy (GlobalX) is seeking Lifeguards for our Summer Programs. Lifeguards will ensure the safety of students ages 4 through grade 5 during swim lessons, maintaining a safe and supportive aquatic environment. Under the supervision of the Pool Manager and Head Lifeguard, Lifeguards are responsible for monitoring pool activities, enforcing safety protocols, preventing accidents, and responding to emergencies as needed. Position Details Program Duration : Up to 5 weeks during Summer Programs (dates may vary) Work Hours : Monday Friday, 11:00 AM 4:00 PM (hours may vary) Orientation : Mandatory in-person session

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16-years-old with a valid work permit.
  • Must have current Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications.
  • Able to recognize potentially dangerous situations and be able to take appropriate action.
  • Strong swimming skills and understanding of water safety practices.
  • Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with teachers, students and parents if necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience lifeguarding.
  • Experience working with children of all ages.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all pool activities to ensure student safety.
  • Enforce pool rules and respond swiftly to any signs of distress or unsafe behavior.
  • Perform water rescues, administer first aid, and provide CPR if necessary.
  • Conduct routine safety checks and ensure all equipment is in working order.
  • Collaborate with swim instructors and program staff to maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Set up and break down pool equipment as needed.
  • May act as a swim instructor as needed.
  • Police pool, pool area and bleachers.
  • Provide quality patron surveillance during on duty times.
  • Handle any infractions of pool rules.
  • Understand that the entire pool area is their responsibility.
  • Focus on safety first, following rules, and maintaining correct use of the facility.
  • Major area of focus is prevention of accidents.
  • Responsible for participating students, spectators, teachers or anyone and everyone in the pool area.
  • Extremely important to continuously work to decrease risk of any serious injuries.
  • Maintain total control of all aquatic activities under your supervision.
  • Be ready to review lifeguarding/first aid procedures.
  • Be ready to perform a rescue of anyone at any time.
  • Be ready to perform appropriate rescues or first aid to any victim in need.
  • Be willing and ready to maintain physical conditioning
  • Participate in daily required swims to help maintain physical conditioning.
  • Look for the highest potential of accident/injury during patron surveillance.
  • Willing to complete in-service training scenarios during the swim day.
  • May act as a swim instructor occasionally.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Pool Manager and/or Head Lifeguard.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at work.
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Comply with the instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to safe work procedures.
  • Take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of others.
  • Report any injury, hazard or illness immediately to their Supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Not place others at risk by any act or omission, not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.
  • Identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources.
  • Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.
