The Impact You’ll Make in this Role As a Tape Automation - Global Application Engineer for 3M Industrial Adhesives and Tapes Division , you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by: Role focuses on developing and scaling tape application solutions across Level 1–Level 4 automation, from manual-assisted aids (L1) to fully integrated, PLC/MES-connected lines with in-line inspection and traceability (L4). Collaborates globally with Application Engineering, Product Development/Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and automation partners to design, pilot, and replicate high-impact bonding applications. Identifies the right 3M tape and automation level using customer requirements, takt time, accuracy, ergonomics, and ROI; validates performance through testing and communicates results via reports and presentations. Builds product automation support: specifications (tension, pressure, speed, peel angles), applicator guidance, fixtures/tooling, PLC/MES integration guides, SOPs, demos, and training content. Develops market insight and partner ecosystems aligned to L1–L4 and product families; gathers Voice of Customer, tracks competitive trends, and informs new product features optimized for automation (e.g., tabs, fiducials, liner properties). Troubleshoots issues across automation levels (alignment, wet-out, bubbles, static, liner tearing, vision accuracy) and drives corrective actions, root cause analysis, and preventive maintenance/process control. Operates in a global framework, sharing best practices, safety/compliance standards, documentation, and commissioning lessons to ensure consistent replication across regions and sites. Global Collaboration: Engage in early morning or evening meetings with our global team, demonstrating your willingness to work across time zones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Three (3)years of experience working with automation solutions in a private, public, government or military business environment
  • Two (2) years of experience in Application Engineering
  • One (1) year experience with industrial automation systems and modeling, simulation, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

Nice To Haves

  • Ph D degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science from an accredited institution
  • Five (5)years of experience in Application Engineering
