About The Position

Global Corporate Controllers department is responsible for Morgan Stanley's financial records, ensuring that the assets and liabilities of the Firm are properly controlled, and providing accurate and timely financial information both to senior management and externally to statutory and regulatory bodies. This is a Vice President level position within the Corporate Controllers, Reporting & Accounting job family which is responsible for the accuracy and control of the Firm’s books and records to produce the consolidated firm, segment and legal entities financial statements. The group owns the Firm’s financial reporting under US GAAP, International GAAP and the global regulatory regimes. Responsibilities include the development, management and oversight of financial accounting & reporting systems as well as database management. Includes capital and liquidity reporting and external reporting functions. This role requires strong technical accounting expertise, analytical skills, and operational excellence to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. The position plays a pivotal role in control processes, month-end close, analyzing non compensation expenses for the Business Units and driving continuous improvement across global finance operations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant Finance/Accounting experience
  • Experience with automation, AI and workflow tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to interact with colleagues/clients of all levels
  • Committed and self-motivated individual who can demonstrate initiative and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrate self-starter competencies and be able to prioritize, drive and manage their own work slate
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Strong appreciation of escalation and risk awareness
  • Analytical skills with a control focus and high regard for attention to detail
  • Critical thinking in order to challenge processes, solve for ad hoc queries and to suggest alternative approaches.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills

Responsibilities

  • Act as a guardian of the P&L and Balance Sheet, ensuring balances are well supported and understood
  • Own and oversee expense accounting for assigned cost areas, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely recording in the general ledger, in line with accounting policy and close requirements
  • Perform period over period analytics, identifying and explaining material variances and related business drivers and implications
  • Analyze expense trends and cost drivers, providing clear, actionable insights to Finance and Business Unit management
  • Partner with FP&A and business stakeholders to ensure alignment between actuals, forecasts, and business expectations
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve control breaks, accounting issues, or unusual postings; escalate material issues to Controllership management
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex accounting and controlling issues.
  • Lead or participate in firmwide accounting process and system changes, drive automation and AI-enabled improvements
  • Other ad hoc duties
