About The Position

The Global Safety Program Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the MSA EHS Management System focusing on workplace safety and health compliance and maintaining world class programs and business goals. This position provides safety leadership to the entire MSA organization through training, coaching, mentoring to the key stakeholders and the EHS professionals at our manufacturing locations. An expertise in technical safety and health knowledge and application is vital to be successful in establishing protocols for safety best practices, enhancing associate engagement, continuous improvement to programs and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Level I: min. 8 years in an occupational safety and health manufacturing role or equivalent including experience managing multiple sites.
  • Level II: min. 10 years in an occupational safety and health manufacturing role or equivalent including experience managing multiple sites outside of the U.S./Canada.
  • Level III: minimum 13 years in an occupation safety and health manufacturing company role. Responsible for multiple locations/countries.
  • Strong English communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to effectively contribute to multiple projects and teams.
  • Familiarity with federal and state government regulations.
  • Demonstrate strong collaboration, communication, initiative, and problem-solving skills with emphasis on environmental and sustainability initiatives and problem resolution.
  • Ability to read regulations and interpret requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, initiative and problem solving skills. This position to lead safety and health initiatives for the entire MSA organization which includes: manufacturing locations, repair & service/support staff locations, and sales/service teams globally that visit to complete installations and repairs on customer sites.
  • Provide regular communication on Incidents, Improvements and specific campaigns related to EHS initiative.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to all levels to influence and training on safety programs, improvement needs and problem resolution. This position is responsible for safety and health programs that impact all MSA associates globally.
  • Ensure facility Safety and Health compliance at all of MSA’s global facilities and service teams that visit customer sites.
  • Develop and implement safety and health programs as part of MSA’s EHS Management system to continually improve workplace safety, associate engagement and strive for company CSR objectives. As part of the programs, develop training materials, guidance documents, and templates to assist locations.
  • Support the development and maintenance of MSA’s internal programs and standards that ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations and MSA expectations pertaining to occupational safety and health.
  • Serve as a MSA technical representative with external regulatory agencies and inspectors. Provide support and technical consultation during audits, inspections and other regulatory review.
  • Drive cross functional collaboration between EHS professionals, manufacturing, engineering and sales/service globally to establish best practices, update programs, problem solve and continuously improve safety and manufacturing processes.
  • Establish and coach MSA’s Safety Community of Practices.
  • Coach, mentor and provide guidance to: ALL the global EHS professionals and global EHS Managers (>15+ EHS professionals globally) Location Plant Managers and functional managers Manufacturing and Industrial engineering teams
  • Create, maintain and continuously improve methods to gather, analyze, report and utilize performance data (numerical and non-numerical) to improve overall safety performance. This role will create new reports, make presentations, develop improvement proposals, organize best practices and communicate performance-enhancing safety information to MSA globally through the Global EHS team.
  • Manage all the Safety and Health data for the company globally. Ensure all the data reported follows corporate and regulatory requirements. Lead and participate in audits related to public disclosed data. Ensure the methodology for data management meets requirements for internal and external auditing. Analyze all the safety and health data to identify trends and gaps.
  • Develop preventative and corrective actions to address opportunities and gaps. Complete an annual report on workplace safety results and compliance summary. Complete all the data for the regulatory agencies including audits.
  • Develop guidelines and process to manage 3rd party contractors to manage safety risks both from selection of contractors as well as requirements for MSA policies and government requirements. Local MSA resources or 3rd party contractors to achieve ‘beyond minimum’ compliance and may include the development of MSA Global EHS Management System.
  • Lead the U.S. Workers Compensation process related to case management by establishing guidelines, training professionals and regular cadence of review. Manage the workers compensation cases to act swiftly after an injury/incident, obtain accurate facts, manage claims fraud, track the employee recovery, develop the return to work plans and monitor claims costs and progress with the risk management department.
