About The Position

The Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) is a non-profit organization that serves as a catalyst for privacy leadership and scholarship, advancing principled data practices in support of emerging technologies. FPF brings together industry, academics, consumer adv ocates, and other thought leaders to explore the challenges posed by technological innovation and develop privacy protections, ethical norms, and workable business practices. FPF’s Global Privacy team closely follows developments around the world in data protection and privacy policy-making and regulation, supported by staff members in Washington DC, Brussels , Singapore , Nairobi, and New Delhi. We keep our stakeholders informed of relevant regulatory changes, case-law, guidance, policies, and legal requirements, while also providing background and in-depth analysis in order to support them in being ahead of key developments globally. ROLE OVERVIEW FPF is seeking a Global Privacy Summer Fellow , based in Washington, DC, to assist the Global Privacy team. The Summer Fellow will work closely with colleagues around the world, in addition to the team based in Washington, DC, and contribute to global policy research and analysis in data protection, privacy, and new technologies. We welcome applications from any academic or professional background (typically, this includes law degree holders or MA/MBA/PhDs in a policy-related field, and/or career professionals) with a preference for applicants who have recently completed a graduate degree.

Requirements

  • Excellent writing skills and an ability to curate information based on independent research skills
  • Experience or previous participation in professional or volunteer activities, as well as subject-matter expertise in policy areas relevant to FPF’s work
  • Demonstrated interest in and good knowledge of data protection law, and familiarity with its application to new technologies, including artificial intelligence
  • Strong familiarity with one or more of the jurisdictions in which FPF’s Global Privacy team operates (Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, etc.)
  • Interpersonal qualities that show support for colleagues, peers, and the broader community
  • An ability to work in a highly collaborative and diverse project-team environment, with colleagues from different jurisdictions and backgrounds
  • Professional working proficiency in an additional language (i.e. French, Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, etc.)
