The job is in our Waltham MA Office. This is a hybrid position and is onsite three days a week. Position Description Summary Leads the global landscaping process across all TA areas and co-lead the Philly, NY, and DC region for CSL.

Requirements

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent advanced scientific degree in life sciences required.
  • 15+ years of experience in pharma/biotech strategy, external innovation, R&D strategy, or corporate/business development roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize scientific, strategic, and competitive insights into clear recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Experience designing or managing governance processes and driving high-level decision-making forums.
  • Experience evaluating pre-clinical assets and clinical-stage drug candidates across multiple modalities (small molecules, biologics, cell/gene therapies, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • External Innovation Strategic Landscaping & Intelligence Create and manage as single source of truth to drive the external innovation process Synthesize therapeutic area landscapes to identify priority opportunity lists, key players, innovation hotspots, and emerging trends across selected therapeutic areas or modalities Ensure consistent tracking/monitoring of asset inflection points and deliver best-in-industry competitive landscapes of assets in development Assess new landscaping tools and AI platforms to efficiency identify and monitor external opportunities (including Clin Trials, IP, etc.)
  • External Innovation Conference Strategy Develop and lead conference strategy for sourcing/early business development meetings Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define strategic objectives, target meetings, and key narratives for external engagements Oversee coordination of conference preparation materials (e.g., landscape summaries, target lists, briefing documents) and post-conference follow-up processes.
  • Governance Process & Opportunity Advancement Architect and oversee governance framework for evaluating and advancing external innovation opportunities, from intake to triage, review, and recommendation
  • Regional Ecosystem Co-Lead (with Head of Search) for Philadelphia and New York Embedded in ecosystem and responsible for representing CSL to source innovation against all TA strategies Maintain local relationships and ensure CSL EI priorities are amplified at key universities, incubators, local organizations, etc. Partner closely with Search TA Leads to conduct regional searches, plan for regional engagements/conferences, and share regional news/developments Hold and represent CSL at local external innovation events
