The Global Head of Digital, Informatics and AI (DIAI) at Novartis is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the digital transformation strategy within Biomedical Research (BR). This position aims to enhance drug discovery and development through the integration of digital technologies, AI, and data science. The role involves overseeing a global team of over 300 associates, managing significant budgets, and ensuring alignment of digital strategies with organizational objectives while fostering collaboration with internal and external partners.

  • Lead the creation of a global digital strategy for AI-driven drug discovery using Data Science, AI, and ML.
  • Provide strategic input and vision to the Head of Research and Novartis AI strategies.
  • Oversee a substantial AI/ML program portfolio within BR projects and establish a governance model for prioritizing AI focus areas.
  • Direct AI contributions to support BR's drug discovery portfolio and enhance productivity.
  • Identify and lead strategic external AI collaborations, providing insights to the Head of Research and Novartis executive teams.
  • Manage BR's data & AI strategy, setting and enforcing data standards and offering data management services.
  • Deliver top-tier research informatics to expedite the discovery of new treatments using data & digital technology.
  • Collaborate with Novartis DDIT and the BR Data Science community to execute a digital strategy for BR.
  • Build capabilities for developing advanced scientific applications and optimize costs.
  • Grow a diverse, inclusive, high-performing leadership team.
  • Doctoral degree in computer or data science, AI, Machine Learning, or a related discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience in data science, AI, Machine Learning, or research informatics within the Pharmaceutical/Biotech Industry.
  • Proven leadership of enterprise-wide AI/ML programmatic strategy and execution.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary, global teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a complex portfolio and prioritize resources effectively.
  • Experience in drug discovery and development processes.
  • Familiarity with advanced analytics methodologies applied to pharmaceutical research.
