About The Position

Glass Process Engineer Manager Claremont Fiber Plant Description: As a world leader in telecom cable systems, the Prysmian Group’s Claremont fiber manufacturing plant is seeking a leader and self-starter to join the engineering department to support the manufacturing of optical fiber. This individual will lead the team on the fiber side in process improvement activities on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. They will also develop and lead long-term projects to support quality and cost initiatives. This individual will also be responsible for leading and mentoring on-shift process control resources.

Requirements

  • 5 year minimum of experience in complex manufacturing process- cable or fiber industry preferred
  • B.S. in Engineering (Industrial, Chemical, Materials, Mechanical, Glass Science, Ceramic, or Metallurgical Engineering) from an ABET accredited institution
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex process flow and machinery
  • Desire to become a subject matter expert in the assigned process area
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and start investigation on a process drift without being prompted and generate Key Process Indicators or Metrics to identify process drifts and maintain control of their processes
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to make progress on short term and long term initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to manage work across multiple departments
  • Comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams and across different departments
  • Demonstrated ability to work in high pressure situations
  • Demonstrated initiative to take on different or large responsibilities
  • Excellent communication skills & strong presentation skills
  • Experience working with large sets of data and making data driven decisions
  • Experience managing hourly engineering technicians
  • Experience managing engineers or leading teams
  • Ability to contribute to the team’s culture of continuous process changes and improvements

Nice To Haves

  • Problem Solving methodology such as Six Sigma, Lean, or DMAIC background
  • Demonstrated ability of industrializing a new process
  • Experience in fiber or cable industry
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools such as Minitab

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision and development of the glass side process engineers and engineering technicians across 4 shifts
  • Develop growth paths for engineering technicians
  • Ensure glass process engineering team is working cohesively within the same department and across multiple departments from fiber drawing to measurement step to post-processing (Ring Marking and Overcoating)
  • Coaches and holds team accountable for their deliverables. Ensures delivery of process and equipment improvements for high quality, high yields and minimal downtime
  • Support Senior Engineering Manager in review of downstream results, identifying quality drifts and developing and communicating action plans for correction
  • Support overall plant goals of increasing volume and improving quality through medium-long term planning in partnership with Maintenance Manager, Production Manager, Value Stream Manager, and Operations Manager
  • Monitor manufacturing processes on a daily and weekly basis to identify trends and out-of-control situations and provide solutions according to urgency and priority. Adjust the team’s direction or work tasks based on indicators
  • Develop or maintain performance indicators on a weekly or monthly basis to ensure the process is meeting quality and productivity targets. Perform root cause analysis on reasons for trends and gaps to yields
  • Contributes technical problem solving as needed for the support of general production
  • Work with operators to identify process problems and also provide occasional process training
  • Write process documentation and update procedures. Provide on call support as needed
  • Collaborate with engineers at other international Prysmian plants to resolve process problems or make process improvements. Become a contributing member of the global process control team with a desire to generate change.
