About The Position

The GIS Technician position is essential for coordinating activities related to the collection, development, and maintenance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data for the County. This role involves performing various mapping functions and providing technical support to different County departments. The technician will operate and maintain the County/City GIS base maps, which include parcels, ownership records, roads, subdivisions, rights-of-way, zoning, and tax digest corrections. The technician will be responsible for updating data in the GIS database and entering mapping parcel data from various sources such as deeds, plats, and surveys. In addition to maintaining the GIS database, the technician will revise and update parcel maps, create and combine parcels, issue parcel numbers, and redefine property lines. This includes making corrections to property ownership, acreage, and legal descriptions. The technician will also be tasked with updating sales data, land codes, zoning codes, and exemption codes, as well as incorporating new subdivisions and roads based on information from various records and resources. The role requires conducting data collection research using maps, legal records, and computer databases to gather relevant data for report generation. The technician will maintain and update relational databases containing geographic-related data sets and assist in composing and plotting maps using computer-aided drafting tools. Quality control is a critical aspect of this position, as the technician will review documentation for compliance with applicable statutes and ordinances, ensuring the accuracy of data entered into the system. The GIS Technician will also maintain a tracking system for changes in acreage and parcel documentation, prepare various forms and reports, and operate specialized equipment and tools necessary for the job. Effective communication with supervisors, other departments, property owners, and external agencies is vital for coordinating work activities and resolving issues. The technician is expected to stay informed about applicable laws and regulations, as well as advancements in GIS technology, by attending relevant training sessions and workshops.
