About The Position

The primary responsibility of the GIS Technician is to perform entry to mid-level professional GIS duties as a part of CTC's GIS team. The GIS Technician will be involved in all aspects of GIS. Essential duties will include creating, editing, and managing spatial and non-spatial data for incorporation into company records, web maps and apps, projects and analyses. Reports To: GIS and Data Operations Lead FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Requirements In addition to the above, this position will perform other work related duties as assigned. These tasks do not meet the Americans With Disabilities Act definition of essential job functions and are usually less than 5% of time spent. However, these tasks still constitute important performance aspects of the job. Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of ESRI ArcMap and Pro desktop software for data creation, data editing, and map generation.
  • Strong knowledge of ArcGIS Online and ESRI’s field apps including creating and maintaining web maps, apps, and tools
  • Knowledge of telecommunication industry is preferred.
  • Considerable ability to communicate well with a positive and friendly manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Skills in prioritizing and completing multiple projects. The ability to be well organized and accept responsibility for and work under occasional stressful situations with frequent interruptions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when it comes to entering, editing, and analyzing data.
  • Ability to understand and communicate on a high level and technical perspective.
  • Ability to keep up to date on the wide range of geospatial technology and techniques that can assist in CTC’s operations.
  • Skill in identifying problems and resolutions.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Considerable ability to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Ability to work within a team environment with variable tasking.
  • Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, CTC partners, and external contractors courteously and tactfully.
  • Two-year degree in GIS or Telecommunications from an accredited technical college or program or equivalent in work experience.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to see; hear; talk; grasp; feel and finger equipment to complete assigned job tasks. This position requires prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The employee is regularly required to be able to lift, climb, stoop, kneel, pull and push. The employee frequently must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Some travel may be required for the purpose of meetings and trainings. Overnight travel may be required if traveling outside of CTC’s existing service area.
  • Internal - All employees should work together toward a common goal of continued progress of the company. The employees shall attempt to maintain pleasant working relationships with those in their own and other departments.
  • External – Employees shall remember that quality service is the only reason that the company is in existence. To the individual customer, that employee is CTC.
  • While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, printers, light traffic); ability to work in a confined area (i.e. office cubicle); and ability to sit a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
  • This factor measures the surroundings and physical conditions under which a job must be done and the extent to which those conditions make the job disagreeable. Consider the presence and relative amount of exposure to dust, dirt, heat, fumes, contaminants, cold, noise, vibration, wetness, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for inputting on-going spatial data maintenance and dissemination.
  • Compiles and organizes GIS data from maps, databases, and other sources.
  • Converts data collected from field operations into geospatial database with accurate spatial locations.
  • Performs data research and verification to ensure accuracy of data being entered into the system.
  • Assists with the management and operation of CTC's GIS architecture upon request.
  • Creates reports, reporting data and maps on the data within GIS.
  • Leads and assists with the collection, organization, and formatting of data for CTC's mandatory reporting obligations.
  • Leads and assists with data for grant applications or new build out opportunities.
  • Works closely with Marketing, Sales, and Business Development teams to understand and develop new innovative features to benefit all.
  • Makes recommendations on how to utilize GIS to all CTC departments.
  • Creates GIS products in web application formats to spread knowledge across the company.
  • Responds to GIS and mapping requests from various employee teams.
  • Assists GIS staff and Engineering staff with daily activities.
  • Learns and trains new GIS and data skills that will benefit CTC's strategic plan and goals.
  • Engages with and uses GIS-centric scripting languages to improve GIS products workflows, and efficiencies.
  • Creates and documents procedures.
  • Be a resource to CTC Partner companies for GIS needs.
  • Provides GIS analysis upon request.
  • Any other related job duties as assigned by team lead and/or management.
