About The Position

The GIS Specialist - Renewables at Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is responsible for conducting spatial analysis and supporting various energy projects, including transmission, solar, BESS, wind, and land projects. This role involves creating and modifying GIS datasets, managing legacy datasets, and producing detailed map series from field data. The specialist will also ensure quality assurance and quality control for all geospatial GIS work, while collaborating with team members and clients on data analysis and project needs.

Requirements

  • Degree in GIS, geography, environmental studies, or related field with demonstrated capabilities in GIS.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Esri ArcGIS ArcPro.
  • Strong understanding of geodatabases and geodatabase applications.
  • Ability to work with vector and raster datasets.
  • Experience using ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Portal, or another web mapping system.
  • Ability to use and edit shapefiles and geodatabases to company standards.
  • Understanding of different coordinate systems, map projections, and datums.
  • Familiarity with standard cartographic methods, theories, and principles.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple assignments and set job task priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work in consulting engineering and/or surveying.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and DWG files.
  • Experience using Google Earth and KMZ files.
  • Familiarity with Map Series and cartographic techniques.
  • Experience using Python, ModelBuilder, or another GIS scripting language.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and CSVs.
  • Effective troubleshooting methods in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct spatial analysis and produce detailed map series from field data.
  • Create and modify GIS datasets and manage legacy datasets.
  • Develop and implement GIS-based analyses for energy projects.
  • Ensure quality assurance and quality control for geospatial GIS work.
  • Communicate with team members and clients regarding data analysis and workload.
  • Create Field Maps for project teams and support their needs.
  • Maintain geospatial data workflows on ArcGIS Online and Enterprise.
