The GIS Intern position at Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is designed for individuals pursuing a degree in GIS, geography, or a related field. This role is integral to the Renewables team, where the intern will support renewable energy projects through spatial analysis, cartography, and data management. The intern will engage in various tasks that enhance their technical expertise while contributing to innovative solutions in GIS, ultimately helping to create a better world through impactful projects.

Assist in creating, managing, analyzing, and displaying spatial data using GIS software.
Learn to independently interpret data while maintaining comprehensive documentation.
Assist in managing and updating existing GIS datasets, ensuring their relevance and accuracy.
Contribute to the design and improvement of GIS methodologies for project efficiency.
Support the project team by delivering tailored data and graphics solutions.
Help craft detailed and technically proficient solutions, presenting spatial data clearly and accurately across various media.
Engage in diverse energy and land development projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to provide GIS support and insights.
Assist in innovating desktop and mobile GIS applications, adhering to quality assurance and control standards.

Currently pursuing a degree in GIS, geography, or a related field with demonstrated capabilities in GIS.
Basic proficiency in ArcGIS software and geospatial analysis techniques.
Demonstrated ability to work with standard GIS datasets, deliverables, and software.
Understanding of different coordinate systems, map projections, and datums.
Basic understanding of standard cartographic methods, GIS principles, and spatial data management.
Capacity to manage multiple tasks independently and prioritize effectively.
Ability to solve complex problems related to GIS development and mapping.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Previous work in/familiarity with consulting engineers and/or surveyors is a plus.
Previous experience working on energy projects, such as transmission, solar, and wind, or land development projects.
Experience with remote sensing, GPS technology, and web mapping tools.
Experience using AutoCAD and DWG files.
Experience using Google Earth and KMZ files.
Familiarity with LiDAR datasets and usage.
Experience using Arcade expressions, Python, ModelBuilder, or another common GIS scripting language.
