About The Position

Position: GIS Intern Reports To: Project Manager Status: Part Time, Non-Exempt Primary Areas of Focus Learning & Training Assist with Updating GIS Project Database Project Research Project Documentation & Creating Workflow

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Geographic Information Science or related undergraduate program.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, Microsoft office, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Willingness and eagerness to learn.
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance.
  • Required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • The position may require a visit to project sites occasionally.
  • The position requires a normal range of hearing.
  • The employee must be able to lift 40 lbs. occasionally.
  • Requires prolonged sitting with 15% of the time spent bending and reaching.
  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Noise levels are consistent with a standard office environment.

Nice To Haves

  • A basic understanding of GIS Software (ESRI ArcMap/ArcPro), Civil 3D, and Bluebeam is ideal but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on developing a clear and concise workflow for non-GIS staff to enter GIS features into the database during project setup.
  • Document the workflow as a training tool for future staff.
  • Coordinate with engineering staff to develop shapefiles representing project footprints for past projects not captured in the existing database.
  • Review project metadata for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in integrating separate GIS data from our CO office into a format compatible with our existing GIS project database.
  • Input data for the backlog of projects from the CO office into the updated GIS project database. Ensure data accuracy and consistency with existing project information.
  • Collaborate with GIS and IT staff to port the updated GIS project database to a web format accessible by all staff.
  • Assist with testing and troubleshooting to ensure a smooth user experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
