Lumos is looking for a GIS Intern! If you have are currently pursuing a degree in GIS or are interested in learning about geospatial data and telecommunications, we’d love to hear from you! This program gives students hands-on experience, professional mentorship, and the chance to work on projects that shape the future of technology and communications. Interns will collaborate with our teams, learn practical skills, and gain insight into the fiber-optic industry while contributing to meaningful work. Fully onsite position in our High Point office!

Requirements

  • Familiarity with ESRI products, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Experience updating and maintaining GIS databases, including managing spatial data within platforms such as ArcGIS pro.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze GIS-related issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to adapt and manage multiple GIS projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • A current college student pursuing a degree in a relevant field.
  • Motivated, curious, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skilled in critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving (technical skills may vary by role).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with existing personnel to support construction tracking.
  • Update 811 systems across multiple states in multiple markets.
  • Maintain construction tracking maps in ArcGIS Online.
  • Perform quality control on fiber connectivity data from contractor work using 3GIS.
  • Collaborating with FMS team members, construction, engineering, and project management to ensure timely delivery of passings.
  • Developing and delivering a professional slide deck summarizing projects, outcomes, and accomplishments to an executive audience at the conclusion of the internship.
