Under general direction, the GIS Intern plans, implements, and manages all aspects of ESS’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) infrastructure. This includes system architecture, governance, workflow optimization, and cross-functional coordination to support engineering and construction operations. The role is strategic and foundational, ensuring GIS systems are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with ESS’s long-term goals. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a single-incumbent , professional-level position. The GIS Administrator performs a broad range of duties requiring independent judgment, technical expertise , and strategic thinking. The role goes beyond task-based support and includes leadership in system design, data governance, and interdepartmental collaboration. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Administer and re- architect the ArcGIS Online organization, including standards, governance, permissions, item structure, and long-term data maintainability. Develop and implement GIS–CAD workflows to improve efficiency and reduce duplicated effort across branches. Create and maintain a business plan for GIS modernization, including imagery strategy, data standardization, and field support models. Provide spatial analysis and data support for engineering, utility coordination, and construction decision-making. Develop documentation and repeatable processes that scale across projects and teams. Train and support staff in GIS systems, workflows, and best practices. Coordinate with IT, project teams, field crews, and external partners to ensure data integrity and alignment. Serve as a liaison with GIS vendors and external stakeholders. Maintain expertise in GIS technologies and emerging tools relevant to ESS operations.
