The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) seeks a full-time GIS Developer-Computer Specialist (Software) in the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Unit. With wide latitude for independent initiative & judgment, the successful candidate will develop desktop and web-based GIS applications using a variety of programming languages. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining geospatial applications through the concept, design, and implementation phases. The candidate will manage projects including Critical Response Information Management System (CRIMS), Web Mapping, FDCAD dispatch systems, and cross-platform applications. They will work with a core team to manage large and small GIS projects for public safety applications, support personnel in utilizing GIS applications, and participate in requirements gathering and analysis, functional specification, software design, testing, and deployment. Additionally, the candidate will assist analysts, developers, and/or consultants with GIS system design, configuration, implementation, maintenance, and administration for internal stakeholders' requests and needs. They will perform geospatial data processing/ETL and publishing of data into enterprise geodatabases or REST services, maintain currency of enterprise geodatabase data and metadata, and ensure completion of data updates. The role also includes assisting in installing and testing new GIS software, resolving and troubleshooting GIS-related problems, maintaining computer hardware and accessories, and providing GIS software training for Bureau personnel.
