About The Position

Maxar is looking to add a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Data Engineer to join our team in Orlando FL. You will work directly with Maxar’s One World Terrain (OWT) Engineering and subcontractor teams by providing GIS data development services. This critical role is primarily responsible for collection and management of source data, development of processes for maps, development of the conflation process, support OWT Data Model development initiatives, and development of the airport data production process.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Geography, or related geoscience field.
  • 1+ years of experience with direct terrain data development.
  • 1+ years of experience with developing GIS datasets for simulation runtime databases.
  • 1+ years of experience working with various simulation input data types to include imagery, elevation data, and vector data.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Extensive knowledge in a variety of GIS systems including ArcPro and QGIS.
  • 1+ years of prior experience developing terrain datasets for the U.S. Army SE Core Program.
  • Experience developing geospatial/modeling & simulation programs or image generators.
  • Experience in data model development.
  • Experience in Map production (JOG/TLM).
  • Experience working with distributed international team members.
  • Proficient in technical writing for processes and procedures.
  • Prior industry experience in U.S. Army Simulation & Training is strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of geospatial data products is a plus.
  • Prior experience using Confluence, DOORS, GIT, and JIRA is a plus.
  • The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with GIS engineers in a distributed, DoD development environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform geographic information systems (GIS) analyses on natural resources data.
  • Leverage your knowledge and understanding of global positioning systems (GPS).
  • Plan, design, and develop documents, and analyze spatial and relational databases.
  • Use technical software to manage spatial and tabular data.
  • Build databases by capturing map information with a coordinate digitizer.
  • Produce computer map products depicting contents of databases.
  • Write advanced technical software routines to facilitate analysis.
  • Locate sources of GIS data.
  • Operate computer workstations, digitizers, printers, and plotters.
  • Create user applications and interfaces using the most complex programming languages.
  • Analyze image data using advanced technical image processing software.
  • Prepare and presents very complex technical research.
  • Recommend and implement changes in procedures when necessary.
