The Girls Outdoor Track and Field Assistant Coach (.5) position at Bristol Eastern High School involves assisting the head coach in executing the aims and objectives of the sport program. The assistant coach will instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success, while promoting values of discipline, sportsmanship, and self-esteem.

  • Assist the head coach in carrying out their responsibilities.
  • Accountable for and assists the head coach in the issuing, collection, and storage of all equipment.
  • Know and abide by existing state and league regulations.
  • Assist in scheduling contests and practices.
  • Prepare for scheduled sport events and practices, adhering to scheduled facility times.
  • Make recommendations to head coach for awards.
  • Recommend budgetary items for the next year in their area of the program.
  • Explain team's training rules, CIAC eligibility rules, and procedures for participation in athletics to all team members.
  • Implement policies and procedures in the student-athlete handbook.
  • Secure and maintain cleanliness and monitor athletes in all athletic work areas.
  • Refer all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels.
  • Maintain professionalism and avoid criticizing or arguing with the head coach or staff in front of players or parents.
  • Be responsible for the actions and conduct of the athletes under their jurisdiction.
  • Attend all staff meetings and carry out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach.
  • Instill respect for equipment and school property in each player.
  • Assist in maintaining necessary paperwork, including attendance records and inventory of uniforms and equipment.
  • Follow department's procedures for injured athletes.
  • Work within the framework and philosophy of the head coach.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the nature of the position as requested by the head coach or Director of Athletics.
  • Maintain current Connecticut coaching certification.
  • Must meet certification requirements set by the State of Connecticut.
  • Ability to read, interpret directions, write reports, and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to calculate figures and perform math functions associated with the position.
  • Ability to apply common sense and deal with problems practically.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the activity.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
