About The Position

To provide appropriate instruction for identified elementary school gifted students in subject areas and skill development that will contribute to the students’ development as mature, able, and responsible citizens. Essential Duties Meets and instructs assigned classes at the designated locations and times. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests. Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request. Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom decorum. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals by establishing clear objectives for all lessons. Provides the students with a variety of instructional techniques. Strives to implement the school system’s philosophy and goals. Assesses students' progress on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by administrative regulations and policy. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal. Provide pull-out for enrichment for identified gifted students. Provide push-in collaborative services in the general education classroom Advocate for appropriate academic placements Serve as the school-level contact person for gifted Job Specifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements

  • A valid Virginia teaching license in the area of teaching responsibility and successful student teaching or teaching experience is required (Gifted Endorsement preferred).
  • Must be able to provide satisfactory references of teaching performance and have completed appropriate testing requirements.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board or Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Exhibit manual dexterity, hear and understand speech at normal levels
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly
  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds
  • To bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
