About The Position

Serve as the Gifted and Talented/Advanced Academics Specialist for Region 6 to assist districts in developing programs, providing leadership, technical assistance and professional development at all levels.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Education
  • Texas Teacher Certification
  • G/T Certification or G/T foundation trained with all current updates
  • High degree of professionalism including strong organizational, communication, and public relations skills
  • Ability to establish rapport and work in collaboration with public school, ESC and state agency personnel
  • Ability to prepare and provide professional development to adult educators of all levels
  • Working knowledge of state Gifted and Talented program requirements and grant functions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with internal and external student and school system information
  • Detail-oriented and able to submit required documentation error-free and on time
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively with diverse personalities
  • Ability to utilize current technology platforms and software
  • Minimum five years teaching experience
  • Experience teaching in and/or leading a G/T or Advanced Academics program

Responsibilities

  • Respond to client needs in a professional, courteous and timely manner with current, accurate information
  • Utilize multiple modalities, including distance learning technologies, in person face-to-face, phone, and email for meetings, technical assistance, trainings, etc.
  • Prepare and provide professional development to educators of all levels
  • Follow all federal, state, and local ESC guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Communicate effectively and maintain positive, professional relationships within the Special Programs Department, the ESC, school system staff, TEA contacts, and any partner organizations
  • Collaborate as needed to ensure the mission and vision of the ESC are realized
  • Work on multiple tasks effectively with minimal supervision
  • Manage calendars to ensure all required meetings and trainings are attended
  • Maintain all internal and external required paperwork and program documentation
  • Submit required paperwork and program documentation by requested deadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality with internal information and external student and LEA information
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Serve as the primary contact for the G/T Fee Service
  • Provide technical assistance and training to member districts in leading, designing, implementing, and evaluating state required Gifted and Talented Programs according to the state plan documentation requirements for state required programs according to the G/T state program guidelines
  • Provide training to support classroom instruction and leadership for program implementation
  • Perform regional needs assessments to determine the menu of trainings the ESC will offer for contracted fee service members
  • Establish relationships with Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate entities and provide training and support for these programs within the region
  • Create a work plan and metrics to implement services and build in periodic progress check-in to monitor the work plan
  • Collaborate with Component Director to annually update the fee service contract
  • Maintain program documentation and ESC reports for the fee service
  • Attend relevant TEA webinars, trainings, and conferences (as approved) to support the G/T Fee Service
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Gifted and Talented ESC grant
  • Understand and adhere to all grant guidelines, assurances, and requirements
  • Conduct required regional professional development and technical assistance activities as specified in grant guidelines including but not limited to 30 hour GT foundational trainings and 6 hour updates for administrators, counselors, and teachers
  • Plan and facilitate networking meetings and disseminate information to update campus and district program leaders in a timely manner
  • Collect and maintain program data and documentation for reporting and auditing purposes
  • Submit data and compliance reports to TEA by the established deadlines or upon request
  • Attend relevant TEA meetings, webinars, and grant approved conferences to support the program
