About The Position

Scripps College, a top-ranked women’s liberal arts college, is seeking a dynamic and motivated Gift Planning Officer to join our Philanthropy team during an exciting period of growth as we prepare for the College’s upcoming centennial. The Gift Planning Officer will play a key role in expanding and stewarding a robust pipeline of planned gifts—bequests, charitable trusts, annuities, and other complex gifts—that secure the College’s long-term philanthropic vision. Reporting to the Director of Gift Planning, the Officer will manage a portfolio of prospects, build internal and external relationships, and help educate donors and colleagues about the power and impact of legacy giving.

Requirements

  • Understanding of and appreciation for the philanthropic process and individual giving behaviors.
  • Familiarity with a range of planned giving vehicles and practices.
  • Proven record of accomplishment in cultivation and solicitation of prospective donors.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams, including with volunteer leaders and committees.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinker with sound judgment, discretion, and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Superb interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of the unique role and legacy of women’s colleges in American society.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to working with staff at all organizational levels, including volunteers and board members.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge/NXT strongly preferred).
  • Ability to work evenings for College events and donor meetings as needed.
  • Ability and willingness to travel nationally for visits and events.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 100-125 planned giving prospects and current legacy society members.
  • Guide individuals through the complete donor cycle—from identification and qualification through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Conduct personalized outreach and meetings with donors, both virtually and in-person, focusing on the retention and acquisition of planned and estate gifts.
  • Identify opportunities to update and expand gifts through tailored engagement and stewardship strategies.
  • Collaborate with major gifts colleagues on blended gift opportunities.
  • Partner with the Director of Gift Planning to prepare customized proposals, planned gift illustrations, and stewardship correspondence for planned giving donors.
  • Document all substantive prospect interactions in Raiser’s Edge CRM, including contact reports, moves management changes, and other relevant activity.
  • Support the administration of estate distributions and ensure accurate documentation of confirmed planned gifts.
  • Collaborate with departments across campus to incorporate gift planning into centennial-related programming and activities.
  • Contribute to broader advancement initiatives such as Reunion Weekend, Day of Giving, and campaign events as needed.
  • Active support for the College’s Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in the performance of job duties.

  • Salary rate range: $68,640-$70,720.
  • Regular hours of this position are Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm.
