About The Position

The molding Engineer is leading and coordinating the process development activity to support new product development projects from the innovation phase to the first commercial batches. In this role the molding engineer will influence product and process design & ensure manufacturability of products. The target being to develop superior product design efficient manufacturing process for highest quality and lowest cost.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in injection molding processes and equipment, as well as CAD software.
  • Six Sigma green belt or statistical tool knowledge.
  • Understanding of plastic materials and composites.
  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve production issues.
  • Ability to manage projects, including validations and change control, while following good manufacturing practices (GMP).
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with various teams and stakeholders.
  • Can be counted on to achieve goals successfully.
  • Dedicated to establishing and meeting the needs and expectations of internal and external customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with molding analysis software, Solid Works, Visio, Microsoft Office, MS Outlook, and MS Project preferred.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, plan, implement and coordinate new molding development activities (mold design/build and molding processes) following the GIE process and associated gates review.
  • Review product drawings ensuring part designs can be injection molded economically at the right level of quality - Design for Mold-ability & Scale-ability (DFMS).
  • Specify equipment, molds and materials for new molding processes, or existing process changes.
  • Utilize CAD, mold flow and CFD techniques, state-of-the-art productivity tools along with mold cavity process monitoring instrumentation.
  • Interface with personnel from R D, Plant, Quality, Manufacturing, GIE groups, and outside mold maker/molding vendors.
  • Coordinate and communicate assigned projects with the appropriate personnel and departments.
  • For new product development write capital expenditure requests for molds, as needed.
  • Prepare and manage the budget for molding projects.
  • Develop and implement molding processes for pilot production and define scale-up programs.
  • Define with finance the cost of good model for new product development and the associated CAPEX.
  • Supervise technicians as required, to complete assigned projects.
  • Support qualification and validation activities for new products, processes, changes and transfers as required.
  • Maintain up-to-date familiarity with developments through attendance at professional meetings, literature and consultations.
  • Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations.
  • Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.
  • Other duties as assigned.
