About The Position

The Senior Obstetrical Technician plays a crucial role in the Labor and Delivery Unit by assisting the nursing staff with non-nursing functions. This position involves overseeing the work of other OB Technicians, ensuring the availability and functionality of equipment and supplies, and providing support during patient care activities. The technician is responsible for maintaining a well-organized environment and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Requirements

• At least two years of experience as an Obstetrical Technician.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

Responsibilities

• Directs and checks the work of other OB Technicians.
• Participates in the orientation and training of new OB Technicians.
• Checks labor and delivery rooms for adequate equipment and supplies.
• Tracks preventive maintenance on equipment and expiration dates of supplies.
• Sets up emergency equipment.
• Welcomes patients to the unit and escorts them to the appropriate room.
• Obtains Kaiser Card and photo ID from patients.
• Makes temporary patient ID bracelets.
• Transports patients to delivery rooms, Cesarean delivery rooms, ultrasound, or postpartum as needed.
• Checks testing schedule and pulls charts.
• Ensures proper and adequate supply of packs.
• Sets up sterile delivery table and baby unit for delivery.
• Opens packs and sets up for Cesarean delivery.
• Scrubs for C-sections.
• Assists RN in recovery room, delivery room, and Cesarean delivery room.
• Files monitor strips in envelopes.
• Washes instruments and places them on the central supply cart for sterilizing.
• Transports specimens to the lab.
• Keeps utility room and supply rooms neat and organized.
• Answers lights and telephone.
• Performs other related duties as necessary.
