About The Position

CalBio is seeking an analytical and highly motivated greenhouse gas project professional for the position of GHG Project Analyst. Reporting to the Manager, GHG Programs and under supervision of the Vice President, GHG Programs, the GHG Project Analyst’s primary role is to support the processes required for the timely and successful generation of Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) RIN credits, and Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) across CalBio’s portfolio of projects. The position offers the opportunity to become part of a growing team and advance professionally in a role that contributes to the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, public policy, political science, engineering, environmental science, or related field required.
1-2 years of professional experience related to climate/energy policy and/or environmental/climate issues in business, government, or non-profit. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. CalBio will consider applicants with less experience for the role of Jr. GHG Project Analyst.
Technical experience in, familiarity with, or interest in the energy and/or dairy livestock sectors.
Exceptional organizational skills and extraordinary attention to detail required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability synthesize and interpret technical information for various audiences
Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment.

Ability to multitask and be comfortable in a diverse and fast-moving work environment.
Proficiency in Windows-based applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel) on a PC required.
A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle in California is required.

Responsibilities

Understand and perform the steps of the pathway application, reporting, and credit generation process under relevant GHG programs including the LCFS, RFS and Cap & Invest.
Prepare project-specific carbon intensity (CI) calculators and review supporting data for accuracy.
Prepare additional fuel pathway application documentation (LCA report, site-specific inputs, supporting documentation, etc.).
Maintain supporting documentation including monitoring plans, protocols, metering lists, and maintenance and calibration records.
Prepare other documents, materials, and communication required for quarterly and annual regulatory reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
Maintain project-specific trackers and document control procedures.
Problem-solve and troubleshoot errors, misreporting, incorrect data, and other issues that may arise during the verification process.
Prepare responses to third-party auditors.
Provide support to Project Managers during site visits with dairy farmer partners, verifiers, and internal teams.
Maintain the highest level of integrity, accuracy, and transparency in GHG credit accounting practices.
Grant Preparation and Reporting: CalBio prepares grant applications through public agencies such as the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), California Energy Commission (CEC), and others. The GHG Project Analyst may have roles in this important work, particularly in calculating expected GHG reductions and preparing explanatory documentation and coordinating cross-functionally with other members of the CalBio team.
Data Analysis: The GHG Project Analyst is expected to work closely with members of the CalBio Data Team to track important metrics associated with each digester project for the purpose of communicating to internal and external stakeholders. These may include gas production and quality (MMBtu, scf, CH4 %, etc.), MT CO2e reduced, CI scores, and more as other needs arise. The GHG Project Analyst would be responsible for collecting and analyzing the data for reports that clearly communicate the key metrics for each intended use.
