The Geriatric Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides advanced practice psychiatric care to older adults experiencing mental health conditions, cognitive disorders, and behavioral disturbances. The practitioner conducts comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, develops and manages individualized treatment plans, prescribes psychotropic medications, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and quality of life. Qualifications: Education and Licensure: Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program. Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) by the ANCC. Certification as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner(AGPCNP-BC) Preferred Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN)Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and license in the state of practice. Prescriptive authority and DEA registration (or eligibility) . Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience providing psychiatric care; geriatric psychiatry experience strongly preferred. Experience in settings such as inpatient psychiatry, skilled nursing, assisted living, or outpatient geriatric programs is highly desirable.
