Perform fieldwork for subsurface investigations and geophysical surveys for geotechnical projects under specific instructions provided by project engineers. Fieldwork includes site reconnaissance, geotechnical drilling and sampling, visual, and soil and rock logging, electrical and MASW (multichannel-analysis of surface waves) surveys. Field tasks also include communication and interaction with drilling contractors, landowners and clients. Observation and documentation of geotechnical construction activities and perform construction material testing/inspection during construction phases, and submitting letters of compliance. Under the supervision of senior geotechnical engineering staff, perform geotechnical engineering tasks including review of soil and bedrock samples, assign and review laboratory test results, complete shallow and deep foundation design calculations, settlement and slope stability analysis and other conventional geotechnical engineering calculations for foundation design. Oversee the planning and execution of subsurface investigation and laboratory testing programs for site characterization. Perform complex geotechnical engineering and soil-structure analyses for evaluation of shallow and deep foundation systems, earthwork recommendations, dewatering during construction, slope stability, and private and public roadway design. Develop and review calculation packages and geotechnical report and design memoranda including design specifications. Review project specifications and develop scope of work, schedules, and budgetary estimates for proposals. Perform other engineering activities as required. No hire/fire authority.
