Earth Systems is seeking a Geotechnical Staff Engineer in our Salinas, CA office. As a Geotechnical Staff Engineer, you will organize and carry out the field, laboratory, and technical work for a variety of projects. The Geotechnical Staff Engineer collaborates with a talented group of professionals and enjoys a wide variety of interesting assignments that make a real impact on our surrounding communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with a Geotechnical Engineering concentration required.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-training (EIT) certification preferred.
  • Ability and desire to obtain professional registration in California.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • 0 – 5 years of experience preferably with a geotechnical consulting firm
  • Experience with technical software.
  • Experience with technical writing.
  • Ability to read and properly interpret project plans.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and analyses and understand validity of findings.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations pertinent to Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of testing and inspection of construction materials, standards, and codes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
  • Ability to complete tasks with accuracy and with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with integrity, trust and commitment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; both orally and in writing.
  • Understands AutoCAD and other design software.
  • Understands terminology, methods, practices, and techniques used in technical reports and project preparation.
  • Able to receive and execute the direction of Project Engineers and/or Managers.
  • Availability to commute/relocate: Reliably commute or plan to relocate prior to starting work (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Plan and participate in exploration programs and determine appropriate laboratory testing plan.
  • Fieldwork related to soils engineering and construction, including compaction testing of soils, aggregates, and asphalt.
  • Observation of grading activities and foundation construction.
  • Provide bearing capacity, earth pressures, and pavement recommendations.
  • Provide analysis of and design recommendations for shallow and deep foundations.
  • Provide analysis of and design parameters for temporary and permanent earth retention.
  • Provide grading and ground modification recommendations
  • Research applicable codes, regulations, and requirements for projects.
  • Monitor phases on construction projects and prepare progress reports.
  • Assist with reports and project submissions on geotechnical aspects of project.
  • Demonstrate the company’s safety behaviors by following safety protocols and promoting a safety culture among team members.
