GFT is seeking a Geotechnical Project Engineer to join our Geotechnical Dams & Hydraulics Team in Roanoke, VA! What you’ll be challenged to do: This is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced, motivated Geotechnical Engineer to provide technical input and oversight on large, complex projects. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • 5 - 10 years of increasing responsibility and experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • PE or ability to obtain within first 6 months of hire.
  • Experience with common geotechnical software programs such as SLIDE, SLOPE/W, LPILE, APILE, GROUP, GRLWEAP, Settle3 and gINT.
  • Proficient in the review and preparation of reports, plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Office

Responsibilities

  • Independently apply advanced theories, concepts, and principles of geotechnical engineering to address critical issues and unique conditions.
  • Lead the interpretation, organization, execution, and coordination of large or complex engineering assignments.
  • Perform, review, and / or lead a Team to conduct geotechnical analyses including data interpretation, calculations, and design for various projects and facilities, including but not limited to shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, tieback anchors, soil nails, and fill and cut slopes.
  • Participate in the development of project design concepts and criteria, including research on large or complex project elements.
  • Act as a technical specialist in the preparation of proposals.
  • Manage project teams, including potential integration across multiple disciplines.
  • Serve as Project Manager, Client Manager, and/or Proposal Manager as needed.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Supervise a team of engineers and other technical specialists, as applicable.
  • Collaborate closely with clients to ensure satisfaction and contribute to business development initiatives.
  • Prepare engineering memorandums, reports, design drawings, and specifications.
  • Provide observation support and guidance to construction management staff during project construction phases.
  • Prepare engineering design cost proposals and assisting with marketing and business development efforts as required.
  • This position may require travel on an as-needed basis to other GFT offices, client offices, or project work sites and may include overnight/out-of-town travel.
