About The Position

Whitestone Associates, Inc., a 100% employee-owned consulting firm providing environmental, geotechnical, and construction inspection services throughout the eastern United States, is currently recruiting for a Geotechnical Laboratory Technician. This is a great opportunity for candidates interested in hands-on work with construction materials testing while contributing to the growth of a 100% employee-owned, engineering firm. Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required;
Interest in soils, construction materials testing, and laboratory work;
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow testing procedures accurately;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting;
Ability to lift and move soil or concrete samples as required.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Geology, Construction Technology, or a related field preferred;
Existing certifications related to construction materials testing are considered a plus.

Responsibilities

Perform laboratory testing on concrete, soil, and construction materials in accordance with established procedures, ASTM standards, and industry testing methodologies;
Conduct laboratory testing of soils including Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, index testing, moisture content testing, standard and modified Proctor testing, and permeability testing;
Receive, log, cure, and prepare concrete cylinders for compressive strength testing (concrete breaks);
Monitor concrete sample curing conditions and maintain testing schedules;
Operate laboratory equipment used for compression testing and materials preparation;
Assist with construction materials testing, sample preparation, and documentation of test results for engineers and project managers;
Maintain accurate laboratory records and testing logs;
Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace and assist with routine maintenance of testing equipment;
Follow established safety procedures and company standards during all laboratory activities;
Occasional travel to nearby project sites to retrieve soil or concrete samples for laboratory testing; and
Perform other duties as assigned under the direction of the Laboratory Manager.

Benefits

The estimated pay range for this position is $20 to $28 per hour. Candidates with prior materials testing or laboratory experience may be considered for compensation above this range.
